On the outskirts of Dakar, the Guinaw Rails neighbourhood is slowly being emptied of its inhabitants to make way for major state works, including the Regional Express Train. Thousands of families are being relocated far from the city to the new "Cité de l‘émergence“in Diamnadio. Faced with the walls and empty spaces of what remains of the neighbourhood, my mother tells of her attachment, her new solitude, and her process of reconstruction in the new neighbourhood, in the Apix district. Listening to the speeches about the development of Dakar promised by politicians, the film questions the past in the light of the present: from the inside, it observes the transformation of the neighbourhood, the economic development and its impacts on ordinary people, far from the stakes of globalisation. Mixed with archives, the stories of my mother and the inhabitants of the neighbourhood bear witness to the upheaval of consciousness and the hopes for change.
